Athena had heard the scream just after she had entered the woods. She
ran towards the sound as fast as she could, wishing she had the luxury to
change into her werewolf form but deciding against it. She was relieved that at
least it was a female scream she’d heard but that still didn’t slow her down
any less. If anybody had hurt her baby boy, there was going to be hell to pay.

Tristan and Jade crushed into the woods, freezing in their tracks when
they heard the shattering scream. Well that didn’t sound like Eric but Jade’s
fears were now justified; the vampires were feeding on some of the party
goers. Who would bet against Eric not being one of them some time tonight?
She spotted a blinding flash whizz past a little ahead of them and
another follow five seconds later.
“Whoa,” Tristan said. “Did you see that?”
Jade had seen it, but while he had no idea what it was, she did. Things
were a lot more complicated than she had thought. She had just seen a werewolf
chasing down a vampire.

Raven was wondering how Ramona was getting along. True, she could be
such a bitch sometimes and had wanted to hurt Eric but hadn’t she just saved
him, saved them? She prayed that Ramona would be alright though to whom
exactly she didn’t know. Who would accept a damned soul’s prayer?
She was lugging Eric on her shoulder all the while peering nervously
around her for any other signs of unfortunate surprises. This guy is heavier
than I thought. She spotted some movement ahead of her and frantically
looked for a place she could hide. Upon closer inspection, she saw that the
movement was human. Whoever it was was carrying a flashlight and they were in a
great hurry. Maybe somebody had heard the scream and had come to help.
She dropped Eric unceremoniously on the ground without meaning to. How
could she explain being able to carry a guy almost twice her size? The person
came closer and too late, Raven realized who it was.
Athena stopped dead in her tracks when she saw Raven standing there. She
looked at the still body beside her and gasped. It was Eric! She rushed over to
his side, checking his pulse. He was alive! He was alive!
She turned on Raven who had wisely crept a couple of feet away. When
Athena spoke, her voice shook with emotion. “What did you do to him?”
“Nothing,” Raven protested knowing how bad this looked. “We were
attacked by a werewolf and I had to knock him out because he wanted to go after
it.”
“That’s a lie! You expect me to believe that Eric would try and hunt a
werewolf down? He doesn’t even know what it is!”
“He was trying to help Ramona! She’s a friend and she’s the one
who helped us get away by distracting that bloody beast and now it’s chasing
after her somewhere in the woods.”
“What were you two doing with him in the first place?” Athena quickly
checked Eric’s neck for any bite marks.
“I swear we weren’t gonna hurt him Mrs. Xavier. Please believe me.”
Athena could tell the sincerity in the girl’s voice but she wasn’t in a
forgiving mood tonight. She had almost lost Eric and who knew where Tristan was
at this very moment. She took a good long look at Raven.
“I believe you,” she said softly. “Are there any more werewolves out
there?”
Raven shook her head. “Not that I’ve seen.”
“Okay. Help me get him up.”
Raven was eager to obey but Athena had lied to her. She was caught off
guard when Athena leaped at her, pinning her down. She tried to bite Raven but
Raven held her off. In her human form, Athena was no match for Raven and
despite snapping at her again and again, Raven managed to throw her off.
Quickly getting to her feet, she took one last look at Eric and then
sped off into the woods.
Athena watched her go. It was okay, as long as she stayed far away.
Athena walked over to the still unconscious Eric, checking him again for any
hidden bite marks she might have missed the first time. Satisfied with her
findings, she shouldered him with some difficulty and started the long trek
back towards town.
