Jade Taylor....

That seemed like the last straw and Amanda screamed as her “virgin” shift started to take place. Every muscle in her body ached, her heart threatening to explode as the blood rushed through her veins. If Amanda thought that was pain, then she certainly needed to brush up on her thesaurus because what followed was certainly much worse. It felt like someone was physically ripping and re-arranging her insides, only, she was still conscious as they did it. She thrashed about, her screams reaching fever pitch when her arm was thrown back right over her shoulder, bones cracking as her entire anatomy changed. She felt her canine teeth growing out, nails growing longer and feet getting slender. She opened her mouth to let out another ear piercing scream and a horrific sound came out.

Oh my gosh, she was a fully fledged werewolf! The whole shift hadn’t taken that long but it had felt like hours to her. She looked to the iron gate blocking her freedom and charged at it but had forgotten the chains binding her. She roared her frustration and pulled at the chains, surprised at her own strength as she felt them slowly but surely break away from their bolts. Ecstatic with her efforts, she charged at the gate again and again, growling and snarling. She was out of control and she reveled in it, but she needed to get out of here, the small space was suffocating her! Her immense physical strength was no match for the gate as it gradually yielded to her onslaught. But before she could break it down, she felt a strange sensation come over her. She swayed a little, the cellar seeming to disappear as she backed hard into the wall, then everything went black.

Adam watched Amanda as she slept. Damn, was she a strong one, he mused. They had found the gate fallen halfway after she had returned to her human form and his parents had exchanged knowing glances. It was like she had been born for this kind of thing, surpassing even the destruction he did sometimes when chained up. Well thankfully now, at least the worst part was over. She had experienced her first shift and while she had acted as everybody else did during that shift, she now had to learn to rein it in before she ended up having nightmares of the terrible things she’d done.

Amanda stirred and opened her eyes, looking straight into Adam’s. She smiled then suddenly jumped up, holding out her arms and checking for any werewolf signs.

Adam chuckled as she ran her hands through her hair and down her body. “Relax,” he said. “It’s over.”

Amanda wouldn’t believe him, touching her face curiously. “How long have I been sleeping?”

“Only a couple of hours, looks like that first shift did a number on you. We’ll need to get some food in that empty stomach.” He headed downstairs and she followed him.

“Is that your bedroom?” she asked him, the question seeming odd in light of what had just transpired a few hours ago.

“Yes,” he simply said, offering no further conversation as he wandered into the kitchen.

She could see how this was going to go. “Did I do anything while, you know.” She found she could not complete the sentence.

“Not much, besides almost wrecking the cellar.” He reached inside the refrigerator and took out two colas, throwing one to her as he started removing pots and pans from the cupboard. “We had you locked up pretty tight though it amazes me you managed to break the gate down on your first shift. Its lucky the moon was only visible for a couple of minutes. It seems you’re a natural.”

Amanda scoffed, suddenly realizing her throat was parched and she gratefully gulped down the cold beverage. She watched Adam for a moment then quietly said, “You have no idea of what you’re doing do you?”

He smiled sheepishly, holding out his arms. “Guilty as charged,” he said.

Amanda laughed coming to his side and gently pushing him out of the way. “Step aside Mr….” she looked at him, “you know, you never told me your last name.”

“It’s Taylor,” he said.

She continued, “Well step aside Mr. Taylor and let me dazzle you with my infamous noodle soup.”

He laughed. “Why infamous?”

“I don’t know but my Dad says it’s got something to do with spending half the day in the bathroom.”

Minutes later, the infamous noodle soup was served and they dug in, scooping the thick hot broth into their mouths with slices of bread. Amanda told Adam what her shift had felt like, everything about the experience and he in turn told her of his experience. They talked well into the early hours of the morning, Amanda having told her parents she would be spending the night at a friend’s house. By the time, she went home that morning, Amanda could arguably say she knew all there was to know about werewolves.
How time flies, Amanda thought. It had been over a year now since her first shift and everything that had come after had been a joyous thrill. She had learnt with the help of Adam to control her shift and he was once again amazed at how adept she was. Two people spending so much time together was always going to lead somewhere and she was not surprised when Adam kissed her one night. She did not resist, having wished it to happen by sheer will and soon enough they were steadily going out.

Amanda hadn’t told her parents about their daughter’s new extracurricular activity, neither did Adam encourage it. It would be better if her parents never knew what she was, and then they could carry on their lives without any sadness or fear. Amanda finished school and decided to leave town for college. Adam, forever by her side, went along with her. College life breezed by quick enough and soon, both werewolves graduated. It was now time to enter the employment line and settle down, maybe even start a family after Adam proposed to her. They got married in the fall, a delightful feast of raw deer under a clear night sky serving as their honeymoon. Adam seemingly did not waste time and Amanda soon got pregnant. She gave birth to a baby girl nine months later, her own little darling werewolf. She mused at how her life had been turned completely upside down since that night all those years ago when she had stopped to help Adam. She figured that if she had to, she would do it all over again. She looked at Adam, and then at the child in her arms. They were going to make a wonderful family; she, Adam and little Jade.

That's the end of our prologue folks! Hope you keeping track of where our main characters are coming from. Next week, we begin our journey into Sereneville Town. See you then!
