Like I mentioned before, this blog will be significantly longer than the Dark Father Chronicles seeing as the book is already running (& more importantly, free) so you'll be able to get a quicker and detailed feel of my writing before you commit to purchasing my upcoming works.
So let's delve right into the prologue shall we......
Eric & Tristan Xavier, 1994
“Angeline, are you crazy!” Athena chided her little sister. “I can’t
believe you would be so stupid. He is a vampire, someone forbidden to even come
in contact with. Don’t mean to sound so cliché but you’ve been sleeping with
the enemy!”
“I know,” Angeline said, hardly able to keep the tears from falling down
her face. “But you don’t know him like I do Athena,” she pleaded. “He’s such a
romantic, really learned and not even close to what the council always portrays
them to be. He is gentle and kind and……loving.” Her eyes took on a dreamy state
as she thought about the day she’d just spent with Julian.
At the look on her sister’s face, Athena snorted. “Get your head out of
the clouds Angeline, your love is not possible and never will be. The council
would never allow it, not to mention two people called Mum and Dad. I can’t
believe I went through with this ridiculous idea in the first place.”
“What do you mean?” Angeline said, a frown crossing her face. “You’re
not thinking about telling this to anyone are you?”
Athena let out an exasperated breath. “No I’m not,” she said
begrudgingly, “but you must promise me that this is the last I’ll hear of it.
No buts Angie,” she cut her sister’s protests short, “this is a really
dangerous situation. It could bring about serious repercussions for the entire
family. You know Frederik does not tolerate disobedience.”
“Fine,” Angeline said. She went to the kitchen and opened the
refrigerator, taking out a carton of milk. “So what are you doing tonight?” she
called while gulping down the milk straight from the carton. “I thought perhaps
a run in the woods would be nice. It’s been ages since we did that.”
“Oh I’m sorry Angie,” Athena said, “but I kind of already made plans
with Nate; dinner and a movie.”
Angeline’s ears perked up at this new information. “Really,” she said
slyly. “Is that all you two love birds will be doing tonight?” she asked a
wicked gleam in her eye.
“Don’t be crude,” her sister wrinkled her nose at her. “Nate is a
gentleman and besides, he said he wants to talk to Dad first before things go
any further.”
“Of course he does,” Angeline replied, sarcasm oozing from her voice.
“Well I guess it will just be me and the moon tonight,” she said, stretching
and yawning at the same time.
Her sister took in the nonchalant movements. “Athena,” she warned, “I
meant what I said about staying away from Julian, vampires and werewolves were
never meant to be together. This would only end up in disaster.”
“Arrgh, you worry too much Athena, you might end up getting pimples on
that lovely face of yours. Besides, I’m just going out for a run, and after
that I’m coming right back home. I’m not gonna see Julian or any other vampire
tonight, so you just go out and have fun alright.” She kissed her sister on the
cheek and quickly walked out the door, leaving Athena looking worriedly at her
departing back.
A few weeks passed and the vampire issue was not mentioned again. Athena
thought perhaps Angeline had a brain after all and had decided to take her
advice but soon, she noticed her sister was acting strange. Always tired, never
being able to keep down food for long and always rushing off to the bathroom at
inopportune times. One day she caught Angeline with her head in the toilet,
trying from the way it seemed, to wretch her insides out.
“Angie,” she said softly, “are you alright?” She knelt down beside her
sister, combing her hair back as she rubbed her shoulder soothingly. A sob
escaped Angeline and Athena stared into her sister’s tear drenched face.
“What’s wrong Angie, why are you crying?”
Angeline looked up somberly, almost choking on the words she spilt out.
“I’m pregnant Athena, I’m pregnant.” She broke down again and let the tears run
freely now.
Athena surprised herself with her calmness as she asked the question
even when knowing its answer. “Is Julian the father?” Angeline only nodded as
her speech skills were highly limited to low but frequent sobs now. Athena
longed to be angry with her but only pity and sadness filled her heart. She
knew what true love felt like and how hard it was to resist such a love,
vampire or no vampire. But this matter did not just involve them now. It
involved the entire tribe, their entire family. How would their parents react
to this, how would the council react to this? “We have to tell Mum and Dad,”
she said finally. “They’ll know what to do.”
This decision seemed to galvanize Angeline back to land of the talking.
“No,” she said, shaking her head. “We can’t tell Athena; you know they would
just take this straight to the council.”
“No they wouldn’t,” Athena said, acknowledging the lie as soon as the
words left her mouth. “That would only spell trouble for you and they wouldn’t
jeopardize their own daughter’s safety.”
“And if their daughter brought shame to their family and put the whole
tribe at risk? Would they still love and support her?” She was back to her
emotional mess, a fresh batch of tears finding their way down her face.
Athena decided to sidestep the question. She breathed deeply. “Look,
maybe they don’t have to know. You’re only a couple of weeks in right? So
there’s still time to……”
Angeline’s eyes bulged at what her sister was suggesting. “You want me
to abort?” she asked horrified.
Athena matched her stare. “Don’t act so surprised. Obviously you didn’t
think of keeping it did you?”
“I can’t believe I’m hearing this from my own sister!” Angeline got up
from the floor having finished her bout of morning sickness for the day. “You
want me to kill a living human being?”
“It’s not living Angie, it hasn’t even formed yet.” She followed her
sister into the bedroom. “And what do you expect me to say? What do you expect
anybody will say?”
“We are of the Children of Gaea Athena; we do not kill innocent human
lives.”
“Angie, you’re carrying the child of a vampire and you are a werewolf.”
She looked at her sister solemnly. “You’re carrying a hybrid and we both know
not even the life loving Children of Gaea will be able to forgive such an
indiscretion and allow your abomination into this world.” She sat down
resignedly on the bed. “Have you even talked to Julian yet?”
“I saw him last night,” Angeline answered. “He feels the same way I do.
He wants to keep the baby.”
Athena could not keep her anger at bay anymore and rounded on her
sister. “Have you two even thought about the consequences of your actions?
Relations between vampires and werewolves are at their highest low and now you
two decide to cuddle up and make them even lower!” She got up and started
pacing the room, running her hands through her thick crop of dark auburn hair.
“There’s a reason why mating between our species is unthinkable Angie, a hybrid
would have the strengths of both species and would be more powerful than
anything you can imagine. Such power can be devastating in the wrong hands.
That’s why there are very few hybrids in history and they were all killed
before their inner hybrid could be unleashed.”
“I know our history Athena,” Angeline said taking out a duffel bag from
underneath her bed.
“So why did you do this?” Athena pleaded with her eyes, trying to understand.
“Why jeopardize everything for the sake of a vampire?”
