Prologue....

Let us continue........

Angeline stopped in her tracks for a moment and looked hard and long at her older sister. Athena had always been the sensible one even when they were growing up. She would scold her sister whenever Angeline got into trouble and claim it was all her fault so that Angeline would be spared a severe reprimand from their father. Would she do the same now, or did she just not understand? “Because I love him Athena,” she finally answered. “And he loves me. I guess it’s difficult to understand being in love with a vampire but that’s just the way it is.” She started throwing clothes into the duffel bag.

“What are you doing?” Athena asked.

“Making the most difficult decision I will ever make in my life."

“This is insane Angeline,” Athena said, using her full name to better emphasize just what she thought of the ludicrous idea her sister had cooked up. “You can’t just run off with Julian and expect everyone to sit back and let you go. The council will never allow it, I doubt the vampires will allow one of their own to go fleeting off with their sworn enemy and you both would be hunted down until they found you.” She caught her sister’s arm as she walked towards the door, duffel bag on her shoulder. “Please think about this Angie,” she pleaded. “I don’t want to lose you.”

Angeline looked at her, her eyes already moist from the tears threatening to run down her face. “I have to Athena,” she said. “We both know Mum and Dad are very loyal to the tribe and you have to be too.” Athena shook her head. “Yes you do,” Angeline said, taking her hands in hers. “You will be punished too if they discover you left me to leave knowing what you do. But I just want to ask for a day sis, just twenty four hours before you tell anybody what’s going on. I promise Julian and I will be far away by then.” The roles reversed, she now clutched a sobbing Athena in her arms. “Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.” She drew back and wiped the tears from her sister’s face. “I’ll call you as soon as we reach someplace safe.”

And with that, she strode off down the street, Athena’s sad puffy eyes following her until she turned a corner and made for the dark woods that surrounded part of the little town. “Good bye,” Athena whispered into the wind.

Angeline reached a clearing in the woods where she and Julian used to meet, panting as she came to a stop. Coming here would have been a lot easier and faster if she had been able to shift but of course she couldn’t carry the duffel bag in her werewolf form. She started as she heard a twig snap, her keen ears perking at the sound as her eyes glowed a light yellow. Her nose picked up his vampire scent even as he appeared silently into her line of view.

Her heart warmed at the sight of her beloved again. Broad shouldered and tall Julian had a striking beautiful face, with thick blond almost golden hair flowing down to his shoulders. Angeline had always been told of vampires and their powers of seduction and now, standing in front of this vampire, she knew that was true.

Julian looked at the woman before him. Was there ever a more beautiful sight? He thought about what he was giving up for her, his home his family, his clan. Coming up to clutch her small face in her hand, he knew she was worth all that and more. They embraced, breathing in each other’s scents. “I missed you,” Julian said huskily. He took her in his arms and kissed her long and hard. She responded just as warmly. Finally releasing her after what seemed an eternity, he said “I thought you weren’t gonna show up. I was so scared you had changed your mind.”

Angeline took his cold hands in hers, kissing them. “Don’t ever think like that,” she said. “You will never lose me Julian; where you go I go.” He smiled, pulling her again for another of his powerful kisses. “Unless, your plan was to live in these woods I think we better be on our way,” she giggled as he released her.

“Sorry,” he said sheepishly. “You just make me go crazy sometimes.” He picked up her duffel bag and slung it over his shoulder. “Are you sure you want to do this?” he asked. “There’s no turning back once we get out of here.”

Angeline looked back at the distant houses silhouetted in the bright moonlight. She felt an ache in her heart at not being able to see her friends anymore, her parents her sister………..but then she thought of not being with Julian, not having his strong arms holding her and her heart ached even more. “I’m sure,” she said. “I want to spend my life with you Julian, and I want to see our child grow and become a big strong man just like his father.”

“Your wish is my command,” Julian said, bowing low. Angeline answered with a curtsy. “Well if we want to make it to where we’re going before anybody discovers we’re missing, I suggest you shift. We’ll cover more ground that way.”

Angeline nodded. Julian took a cautionary step back as she underwent the change. Her eyes glowed their brilliant yellow once again and her entire body rippled. She sunk to her knees as her bone structure popped and cracked to accommodate her wolf anatomy eventually exploding into a ball of fur, completing the shift.

Whereas Julian was taller than her human form, her werewolf form now towered over him. She noticed him staring at her in awe. “What are you staring at?” she asked him telepathically. “You’ve seen me like this plenty of times.”

“I know,” Julian replied, his deep voice resonating in her mind. “It still never ceases to amaze me.” He looked into the woods then back at her. “Race you,” he said and sped off into the night, moving like the wind. Angeline lifted her head up and howled before charging after him.

Angeline smiled as Julian stepped into the hospital room, his arms full of flowers, balloons, and teddy bears. She had just given birth to perfectly healthy twin boys and Julian had been lavishing her with presents all day.

“There she is,” he said as he set the flowers on her bed table. He gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. “How are you feeling?” he asked.

“Like I just gave birth to twins,” she said, laughing.

His deep voice joined in her laughter. “Well I just spoke to the doctor and he said you could leave tomorrow morning. He says its good we live on the reservation. The mountain air will do you good.”

Angeline nodded. A year ago, she wouldn’t have imagined falling in love with a vampire, much less having his kids but here she was; vampire and kids in tow. “Have I ever told you how much I love you?” she asked, cradling his cheek.

“You could stand to say it more,” he said. The smile on his face suddenly froze when he smelt the blood. His pale grey eyes turned blood red as the hunger manifested itself over him. He felt his fangs protruding even as he tried to maintain control of his bloodlust.

Angeline calmly took his face in her hands having come accustomed to his hunger episodes. “Shhh,” she soothed, “its okay Julian, look at me.” She held his face firmly as she gazed into his eyes.

Julian gradually felt himself getting back to normal, his fangs receding. He breathed deeply. “We need to get out of here,” he said.

The next day, Julian came by and picked up Angeline and the twins and soon, they were all safely at their cabin house. Julian was in the kitchen when he felt an apprehensive chill run down his spine. He looked through the window into the dark. Seeing nothing, he walked to the door and opened it just as a huge werewolf stepped into the light coming from the porch.

Julian tensed. “What are you doing here?” he asked.
